Residents within the PL35 postal area will be able to apply to the CIC for a yearly “CIC parking permit” which will allow for 20-minute free parking in any of the marked bays in the lower car park. The permits are offered on the basis of fair use – to enable local residents to access and support their local business community. This should allow for permit holders to freely enjoy their village’s offering whether it is to pop to the post office, grab some fresh baked goods, find the perfect presents in any of the retail shops or pop in and make a table booking at one of the eateries. Having the dedicated spaces will allow users to park safely, rather than on the busy curb side, and without the need to pay at the machine.
The Directors of the Company are pleased to announce the community minibus project which they hope will bring benefit and opportunities to the different groups associated with the village. In addition, the Directors are looking to provide the opportunity to the community who are unable to access services and facilities due to the village being geographically isolated.
The 17-seater minibus will be available for drivers aged of 25 to 70, with a B1 car licence of at least two years, will be able to operate the minibus in accordance the terms and conditions of use. The minibus is not for profit – the Company will soon set fares at a level intended to meet the running costs but not to generate a profit.
Over a year of negotiations and the CIC and Cornwall Council have agreed the terms and conditions for the provision of electric vehicle charging in the car park of Boscastle.
Whilst the Council’s service director’s final email stated that “this project can now conclude at speed”, it took a long time to get the lease and equipment working.
“Boscastle Sound” is published online for those living in and around the village of Boscastle, Cornwall. It contains articles and material from various organisations within the village as well as other items that the moderators deem of interest. All residents are keenly encouraged to contribute material for inclusion.
In an unused area of the car park, the CIC invested in recycled plastic street furniture to allow people a place to sit and enjoy Boscastle. To make it even more special, the CIC recycled a boat to make a beautiful flower planter. Our volunteers keep our planters so special all year round giving that "wow" when you visit us.
The CIC is provided admin support and/or small funds to support the various village teams with their work.
The local authority gave notice to the village that they intended to close the only toilet facility in the parish from April 2016. The CIC formally leased the toilets from Cornwall Council in July 2016 and uses local people to clean, maintain and operate the facility for the benefit of the visitors and residents.
Working with the National Trust Boscastle, the Company helped develop a village map for new and returning visitors. Two big maps are hosted on the Boscastle Gateway building and 10,000 paper versions are held at the National Trust Boscastle visitor centre along with other venues to help visitors interact with the local area.
